He will give a presentation on the chosen K-5th grade math resource and 6th-8th grade math resource during the April Board meeting. Mr. Szopinski stated the our district received an additional $30,000 in federal grant, which will be spent on tutoring Homer students in a math after school program.
Craig Schoppe, Superintendent, reported we registered approximately 280 kindergarten students during the March 14th roundup event. We anticipate another 100 students will be registered for kindergarten for 2019-2020. Some key changes to this year's registration process:
❏Parents filled out a short form and provided proof of residency electronically through the form (similar to the returning student process for registration). If this was not done prior, it was done that evening with our staff.
❏Suggested times based on last name were provided and for the most part our parents followed those timelines.
❏Kindergarten assessments had 5 lines instead of 1 and published the dates ahead of time for parents to review.
❏Event moved back to Hadley which helped with parking and space.
Overall, the event ran very smoothly. The changes to uploading residency documents ahead of time allowed the registration staff to be more engaging with the new parents. We did not experience any long lines and most parents were able to move through the process fairly quickly, especially if the parents completed the short form ahead of time. The feedback heard from staff and parents who attended was that it was a positive experience. A huge shout out to Kelli Gritzenbach, our registration and enrollment specialist, who organized the event, and to all of our support staff who helped work the event and made it go so smoothly!
We are hosting a parent informational meeting on A Parents' Guide to Cyberbullying and Social Media. The event will be held at the Homer Junior High School on Tuesday, April 9, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Detective Richard Wistocki, a nationally-recognized high technology child crimes specialist with 30 years' experience in law enforcement, will be presenting proactive strategies, expert insight, and invaluable resources designed to empower your family to combat cyberbullying and sexting.
