Renee Karalus

Mrs. Karalus prides herself on being a life long learner and educator. Mrs. Renee Karalus learned of her true passion for education and more specifically, special education, while attending Lincoln-Way Central High School. She attended the University of Saint Francis in Joliet where she attained her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Knowing her true passion was special education, she continued on and earned her Master’s degree in Multicategorical Special Education, and soon after began her job as a special education teacher in Manhattan, IL. She continued in this position earning her second Master’s degree from Governor’s State University in Administration, and went on to serve as the Director of Special Education in Manhattan. After teaching for fifteen years, and serving in administration for five, Mrs. Karalus again returned to school earning her third Master’s degree in Special Education as a Dyslexia Specialist.

Mrs. Karalus takes great pride in serving students, families, and staff, and is excited to join the Homer School District family as the Director of Special Services.

Mrs. Renee Karalus lives in Manhattan with her husband, Neal, and their two daughters Kelsey and Emily.
