Assistant Superintendent for Instruction

Michael Szopinski took on the new role of Assistant Superintendent for Instruction on July 1, 2018. He was the Principal at Young School since the school first opened in 2010 through the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

He grew up in Downers Grove and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received his Bachelor’s degree in History. He went on to receive his teaching certification from Elmhurst College and his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Loyola University Chicago. He began his teaching career as a 7th grade social studies/literature teacher in Keeneyville Elementary School District 20 in Hanover Park. He joined the ranks of school administrator in 2006 when he was selected to serve as Assistant Principal of Aux Sable School in Minooka. In 2008, he was named Principal of Allen Elementary School in East Aurora. In 2010, he joined the Homer School District 33C family.

Mr. Szopinski lives in Plainfield with his wife, Liz, and their three children: Gabriel, Benjamin and Nathaniel.
