Homer Junior High School Mission Statement

 

The mission of Homer Junior High School is to provide a safe and supportive environment that creates life-long learners.  Through the combined efforts of school staff, parents, and community, students will have the opportunity to become responsible and productive citizens.

 

 

HJH Accomplishments for 2006-2007

 

à        Met AYP status for Mathematics, Reading, and Science 7th/8th grade

o       86% of our  seventh grade students met or exceeded State Standards in Reading

o       89% of our eighth grade students met or exceeded State Standards in Reading

o       90 % of our seventh grade students met or exceeded State Standards in Math

o       86% of our eighth grade students met or exceeded State Standards in Math

o       94% of our seventh grade students met or exceeded State Standards in Science

à        READ 180 program expanded

à        READ 180 staff development provided

à        Curriculum alignment in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies

à        SharePoint Homework Website implemented by all HJH Teams

à        Two week Block Scheduling pilot

à        Continue to enhance the Math/Pre-Algebra/Algebra Programs by evaluation of quarterly benchmark assessments

à        Continue professional development in the areas of Language Arts and Math

à        Implement new Spanish  Series 7th-8th Grades aligned to Lockport Township HS

à        Implement new Health Series 7th-8th Grades

à        Literacy Reading/Writing Initiative

à        Utilize website to inform students, parents, and community of upcoming events

à        Implement comprehensive character development program- Character Counts

à        Promote a positive and collegial environment between all members of our school community
