November 15, 2004

We are saddened to report that Tom Krupske, a sixth grade student at Hadley School passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2004.  The Will County Coroner’s Office has ruled, in its preliminary autopsy report, that the death was cardiac related and not related to bacterial meningitis.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.  We are taking every measure to ensure that every student and family learn the facts of this tragic situation and how it affects our school community.

As a precautionary measure, Hadley School was closed today, Monday, November 15, 2004, to allow all Hadley students and staff an opportunity to seek advice, if they chose to do so, from their health care provider and to allow the custodial staff time to thoroughly clean Hadley School and the bus that transported Tom to and from school.

Hadley School will reopen on Tuesday, November 16, 2004.  Building administrators and staff members have developed a plan of action to provide students and staff members with an opportunity to meet and discuss their feelings in the aftermath of this tragedy.  Opportunities for small group and individual discussions with counseling and social work staff will be arranged during the school day on Tuesday, Wednesday and on additional days if needed.

Parents are encouraged to monitor their children’s reaction to this loss and share their observations with school personnel.  Please know that the well being of all of our students is foremost in our minds as we share the sense of loss with the family of Tom Krupske.
